The First Month of Lines on YKnot: What People Posted

Malasadas, boxing in a condo garden, a judo trial, a fight card. Here is what Honolulu members actually posted in YKnot's first month.

String lights over a garden of palm trees at dusk in Hawaii, the kind of evening plan people post as lines on YKnot.

YKnot opened in Honolulu at the end of August, and the first month of lines on YKnot was less exotic than you'd guess. No helicopter tours, no yacht days. Malasadas, boxing in a condo garden, a fight card, a judo trial class. Here's what people actually posted, and what it says about a plan worth opening.

What the first month of lines on YKnot looked like

Every line below is a public plan a member posted in Honolulu. Some have ended, a few are still open. What ties them together is that almost none of them were invented for the app — they were things the host was already doing that had room for one or two more.

The line that started it

The first one came from the co-founder. "I'm Santosh, co-founder of YKnot," it opened, then got to the point: "there's a plan with your name on an empty seat." Aloha from the co-founder! ran in late August near City Hall. Good template: it asks for nothing complicated.

Watch parties were the easiest yes

Let's watch MMA together ran in Waikīkī in early September — "It's going to be an exciting fight this Saturday." MLB at Mai Tai's sold the room, not the game: "you need to try Mai Tai's bar if you've never been. No walls!!" And UFC 331: Van vs. Pantoja 2 is on the calendar for Saturday, Sep 19 at Ala Moana. Fixed start time, built-in thing to talk about, easy to leave.

Drop-in fitness with a buddy

Workout and boxing with me and an awesome trainer ran three separate times off Beretania — a member's trainer comes to their condo garden for boxing and cardio, pool after, and the host vouched for him: "he is truly great, very very funny." Rock Climbing at HiClimb in Kakaʻako was bouldering and auto-belay: "Drop in, try something new." Drop-in Judo class? is open for Sep 17, and it's the most honest line of the batch: "I get a bit nervous about dropping in alone." Yoga @ Magic Island is open for Sat Sep 12 at 10am — a wellness specialist and yoga teacher on Oʻahu who has taught for over ten years, running a donation-based deep stretch and breath work class for all levels.

Art and galleries

Wander the galleries and have coffee at HoMA ran once in Makiki and is back on the calendar for Sep 11: "Wander the galleries, have coffee, optional sketching." First Friday at Capital Modern Art Museum is open for Fri Oct 2 downtown — "Come dance, sing, shop, and eat!" with local vendors and musicians.

Food, coffee, and waits worth sharing

Leonard's Bakery — the line is too long to stand alone ;) ran four times on Kapahulu, malasadas and a queue, with a bonus suggestion: "Maybe check out Uncle Bo's first?" Wake up to coffee at downtown Paris Baguette promised nothing more than "Sip lattes and chat about whatever." Avocado toast and Shop (or Zoo?) ran three times in Waikīkī, undecided on purpose. Launch Pizza party in Chinatown marked the launch itself.

Nightlife and music

Karaoke tonight? was drinks in town, then Wang Chung's in Waikīkī, from a host "looking to connect with new people and have fun." Speak Russian? Tikis live music & pupus went out a few times for Russian-speaking kamaʻāina and visitors at Tikis Grill & Bar, and is on the calendar again for Sep 17.

Shopping and errands count too

Shopping 30–40% off at Patagonia on Ward Ave is the smallest plan in the bunch and one of the smartest: "I personally prefer shopping with a friend for accountability."

A few tips from month one

  • Repeat what works. The Leonard's line went up four times and the boxing three. A good plan is a rerun, not a one-off.
  • Smaller is easier to say yes to. Coffee and a shop run got asks. Nobody needs to clear an afternoon.
  • Say the nervous part out loud. Judo, karaoke, and the bakery queue all worked because the host admitted they didn't want to walk in alone.
  • Name the place and the start time. "Tikis, live music" beats "somewhere in Waikīkī later."
  • Some of these are still open as of publishing — check the Honolulu lines page for whatever is current.

If you're writing your first one, start with What Makes a Good Plan on YKnot. If you'd rather join someone else's, here's how to ask to join a plan. And if you're wondering what this is: no, it isn't a dating app.

Make it a plan

Month two is already on the board. Yoga at Magic Island, judo in ʻAiea, UFC 331 at Ala Moana, and First Friday at Capital Modern are open, and there's more on the Honolulu lines page. Or post the thing you're already doing this week and leave a seat on it.

Somebody nearby has the same Saturday free. 🤙
