YKnot Love Incorporated (“YKnot,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a Delaware C-Corporation operating the Y🪢 platform. We are the data controller for personal information collected through the Platform.

All privacy inquiries: info@yknot.love
Data Protection Officer: info@yknot.love · subject: DPO Inquiry

We collect information you provide directly, information collected automatically when you use the Platform, and information from third parties.
When you create an account, we collect:
Full name or display name
Email address
Date of birth (used solely for age verification; stored only as age after verification)
Password (stored in hashed, non-recoverable form)
Profile photograph (optional)
Payment information (processed by our payment processors; we do not store full card numbers)
Authentication tokens if you register via Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In
The Platform is built around “lines” — short, intent-driven posts. We collect:
Text content of lines you post, including description, headline, category tags, and associated metadata
Photographs and video you attach to lines or your profile
Geographic location data associated with lines (city, neighborhood, or precise location, depending on your settings)
Timestamps and edit history of your lines
Your stated intent category (romantic, social, or platonic)
When you communicate with other users through the Platform’s messaging features, we collect:
The full text content of messages sent and received
Message metadata including timestamps, read receipts, and delivery status
Media files (photographs, videos) shared within messages
Reports or flags you submit regarding other users’ messages or content
Message content is treated with heightened sensitivity. We do not use message content for targeted advertising. Message content may be accessed by our trust and safety team only in the limited circumstances described in Section 4.
Where we require identity or photo verification using services such as Didit, Veriff, or another third-party provider, biometric data may be collected as part of that process. This section describes how that data is handled. Consistent with Bumble’s privacy policy approach to photo verification, we use facial recognition technology only where you have consented to it, and we provide a manual review alternative.
If you submit to identity or photo verification:
Verification photos and documents are submitted to our third-party verification provider (such as Didit or Veriff)
The verification scan may include the use of facial recognition technology to compare submitted photos to your profile photo — consistent with Bumble’s verification process
You have the option to request a manual review if you do not want facial recognition technology used or your biometric information collected
We do not add verification photos to your profile
Biometric scans (if collected) are retained only as long as needed for verification purposes or for three years after your last interaction with us, whichever occurs first — consistent with Bumble’s biometric retention schedule
After the retention period expires, we take commercially reasonable steps to permanently and securely delete biometric scans from our systems
For Illinois residents: consistent with the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), we will notify you in writing before collecting biometric information, explain the purpose and retention period, and obtain your written consent
When you make purchases on the Platform, we collect:
Transaction records, including date, amount, and type of action purchased
Wallet balance and credit history
Payment method type (e.g., Apple Pay, Google Pay, credit card type — but not full card numbers)
Full payment card details are handled exclusively by our Payment Processors (Stripe, Apple, Google) and are not stored on our servers.
Content of support requests, complaints, and correspondence with us
Records of reported content or users
Feedback and survey responses
Location data is core to how Y🪢 works. We collect and use location information to show you lines near you and to show your lines to users near you. We do not display your precise GPS coordinates to other users. Other users see only a general distance or neighborhood.
Precise Location (with your permission): If you grant us access to your precise location (GPS), we use this to determine your neighborhood or city-level location for line discovery. Approximate Location: If you deny precise location access, we may derive an approximate location from your IP address. Location Storage: We retain location data associated with your account for the duration of your account. After account deletion, location data is deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
Device type, model, and operating system
Unique device identifiers (IDFA, GAID, or equivalent)
IP address
Browser type and version
App version and installation ID
Crash reports and performance data
Time zone and language settings
Pages, screens, and features accessed
Lines viewed, unlocked, and responded to
Actions taken and their timestamps
Session duration and frequency
Clicks, taps, and interaction patterns
We use cookies, pixel tags, web beacons, and similar technologies on our website. Please see our Cookie Policy for full details. We do not use cookies for cross-site targeted advertising. Consistent with our approach, and unlike Meetup (which uses advertising networks including Freestar for targeted advertising), Y🪢 does not share your data with advertising networks for targeting purposes.

Payment Processors (Stripe, Apple, Google): transaction confirmation and fraud prevention signals

We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes. We do not use your message content for advertising targeting. We do not share your precise GPS location with other users. We do not build behavioral advertising profiles of our users. Unlike Meetup, we do not share your data with advertising networks for targeted advertising on our or other platforms.
We share your personal information only as described in this Policy. We do not sell your personal information.
Certain information is visible to other users as part of the Platform’s core functionality:
Your display name and profile photograph
The content of your lines (text, tags, category, general location)
General geographic area associated with your lines (neighborhood or city level, not precise GPS)
Your precise location, email address, payment information, and message content are never visible to other users.
We share information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf, including payment processing (Stripe, Apple, Google), cloud hosting and infrastructure, email delivery services, customer support tools, analytics and performance monitoring, content moderation assistance, identity and age verification services (Didit, Veriff, or equivalent), and fraud prevention and security services. These providers are contractually required to use your information only to provide services to us and in accordance with applicable law.
We may disclose your information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; enforce our Terms of Service; protect the rights, property, or safety of YKnot, our users, or the public; or detect, prevent, or investigate fraud, security breaches, or technical issues. Consistent with Meetup’s privacy policy, we may also disclose information about you if we believe that your actions are inconsistent with our Terms of Service or related guidelines and policies.
We are required by federal law (18 U.S.C. §2258A) to report apparent violations involving child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). If we become aware of such content, we will report it without prior notice to you and may preserve related account data and cooperate fully with law enforcement.
If YKnot Love Incorporated is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you with third parties for research, marketing, analytics, or other purposes. This information is not personal data.
We may share your information with third parties when you have given us explicit consent to do so.
Unlike Meetup, which shares user data with advertising networks including Freestar for the purposes of placing targeted advertising on the Platform, Y🪢 does not share your personal information with advertising networks. We do not serve third-party advertising on the Platform and do not use your data for cross-platform behavioral advertising.
Location data is fundamental to Y🪢’s core functionality. This section provides full transparency about exactly how your location is handled.
Precise GPS Location: Collected only with your explicit permission (iOS/Android location prompt). GPS coordinates are not stored after conversion to a neighborhood or city-level designation. City/Neighborhood Level Location: Derived from your GPS location or, if GPS is unavailable, from your IP address. IP-Derived Location: Your IP address may be used to derive a general location (typically city level) when GPS is unavailable or declined.
To display lines to you that are posted by users near you
To associate a general geographic tag with lines you post
To calculate approximate distances between users for display purposes
For fraud detection and account security purposes
Other users see only a general distance (e.g., “0.3 miles away”) or neighborhood designation associated with your lines. Your precise GPS coordinates are never shared with other users. You can choose to omit location from a line entirely.
Precise GPS coordinates: Not retained after conversion to city/neighborhood level
City/neighborhood data: Retained for the life of the account plus 30 days after deletion
IP address in server logs: Retained for 90 days for security purposes
Deny location permission on first app launch; the Platform will use IP-based approximate location
Revoke location permission at any time through iOS Settings · Privacy · Location Services or Android Settings · Apps · Y🪢 · Permissions
Omit location from individual lines when posting
Request deletion of location data associated with your account (see Section 11)
Messages between users are stored on our servers. We do not use message content for advertising. Message content may be reviewed by our trust and safety team only in the specific circumstances described below.
We store message content to enable the delivery and display of messages within the Platform, allow you to access your message history while your account is active, investigate reported messages where a user has submitted a report, comply with legal obligations, and detect and prevent violations of our Terms of Service.
We do not read your private messages for advertising, profiling, or commercial purposes. Automated scanning of message content may occur solely for safety purposes, including detection of CSAM and content that violates our FOSTA-SESTA compliance policies.
Active messages: Retained for the duration of your account
Deleted messages: Removed from the Platform interface within 24 hours; purged from backup systems within 30 days
Reported messages: May be retained beyond standard deletion periods for safety and legal investigation purposes

Generate thumbnails and compressed versions for efficient delivery
Scan media for CSAM using hash-matching technology (PhotoDNA or equivalent) before and after storage
May analyze media for content policy violations using automated tools
Where applicable, may use facial recognition technology as part of photo verification (see Section 2.1 for full biometric disclosure)
Profile photos: Retained for the life of your account; deleted within 30 days of account deletion

The Platform’s messaging is currently not end-to-end encrypted. Messages are transmitted over TLS (encrypted in transit) and stored in encrypted form at rest on our servers. YKnot staff with appropriate authorization may access message content for the safety and legal purposes described in this Policy. We will update this Policy if we implement end-to-end encryption in the future.
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Platform, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. We do not retain personal information longer than necessary for these purposes.
