Junior or senior year at Quinnipiac? You can still make new friends

There is room for new friendships in junior and senior year at Quinnipiac. Start with a small shared interest and a plan that fits a busy week.

An open book and a cup of coffee beside a knitted blanket.

By junior or senior year, your week may be full of classes, work, applications, and people you already know. You can appreciate those relationships and still want company for an interest nobody in your usual group shares.

Maybe you want to try a game, take photos, or have someone to join you for a short break. You do not need to rebuild your social life to add one person who enjoys that activity.

Start with what you would do anyway

Pick an activity you genuinely want to do this week. A small reading break or beginner-friendly game is easier to organize than a large event squeezed between deadlines.

Choose a time you can protect, including a finish. If you have an application to complete later, say that the plan ends after an hour. Keeping that boundary can make you more willing to invite someone again.

You can also explore Quinnipiac’s clubs and organizations, which include a Commuter Student Union. Contact a group for current meeting details and ask about joining during the semester. Do not assume that you have missed your chance just because you were not involved in first year.

Invite someone into the activity

An invitation is easier to respond to when it names the activity rather than asking for an undefined amount of time. Adapt this sample with your date and confirmed location:

Short reading break on Sunday, 2–3 p.m. Bring whatever you are reading. We’ll read for half an hour, then chat if people feel like it. Two people welcome. I’ll confirm the venue, access, and any purchase expectation before we meet.

It is not a book club with assigned reading. Say that explicitly if you want someone with a busy schedule to feel comfortable joining.

For an outing into New Haven, include travel time and the return plan. For a university venue, check which guests may enter and whether a booking is required.

Leave room for a second plan

A first meetup does not have to become a close friendship immediately. At the end, ask whether another session would fit. Someone saying they are busy this week may simply be busy; give them room to suggest a time without repeated nudges.
