Y🪢 is an intent-first connection platform. Users post short messages called “lines” expressing a genuine desire to connect with another person for romantic, social, or platonic purposes. Other users respond to lines they find compelling. The Platform is designed to make genuine human connection simpler, faster, and more honest than existing alternatives.
Y🪢 is NOT a marketplace for goods. It is NOT an events platform. It is NOT a job board. It is NOT a promotional platform. It is NOT an adult services platform. Users who attempt to use it as any of these things violate this AUP and will be removed.
This AUP is incorporated by reference into the Terms of Service. All defined terms have the same meaning as in the Terms of Service. In the event of a conflict between this AUP and the Terms of Service, the Terms of Service governs. This AUP supplements, and does not replace, the Terms of Service.
The Content Moderation Policy describes how we detect, review, and respond to violations. This AUP defines what the violations are. Together, they form our complete content governance framework.
This AUP is designed to be consistent with and exceed the acceptable use standards of comparable platforms. Meetup prohibits fake accounts, spam, disrespecting personal boundaries, and altering the purpose of posted content. Bumble prohibits harassment, solicitation, ban evasion, and inauthentic behavior. Craigslist prohibits illegal content, fraud, and prohibited items. Facebook Marketplace prohibits illegal goods, counterfeit items, age-restricted products, dangerous goods, and deceptive listings. Y🪢 incorporates all of these standards and applies them to our intent-first connection model.
A “line” is the core unit of content on Y🪢. Every rule in Section 2 applies to every line posted on the Platform. Lines that violate these rules are removed. Repeated violations result in account action.
A line is a short, genuine, real-time message posted by a user expressing an intent to connect with another person. A valid line must represent a real situation that the poster actually intends to follow through on. Every line must fall into one of three connection categories: romantic, social, or platonic. Every line must describe a real, specific situation, activity, or context.
Every line must be authentic. “Authentic” means:
The situation described in the line actually exists or is genuinely planned
The poster genuinely intends to connect with someone through the line
The poster is who they say they are
The poster’s description of themselves, their situation, and their intent is accurate
Speculative lines (“I might do X”), aspirational lines (“I wish I could find someone who...”), and hypothetical lines (“If I were to...”) are not authentic and are not permitted. Consistent with Meetup’s prohibition on content that is “dishonest” or that “undermines the integrity of the platform,” lines that misrepresent the poster’s actual situation or intent are prohibited.
Every line must be specific enough that a potential responder can make an informed decision about whether to reply. A line that says only “Looking to meet someone nice” fails this standard. A line that says “Hiking Diamond Head Saturday morning, looking for a companion who moves at a talking pace” passes it.
Each line may express only one connection intent. You may not post a line that is simultaneously seeking a romantic partner, a hiking buddy, and a real estate referral. Each separate intent requires a separate line.
Consistent with Meetup’s prohibition on “converting or changing events in a group or event, so that they no longer align with the expectations and purpose set by the organizer,” Y🪢 prohibits changing the nature, category, or purpose of a line after other users have responded to it in a way that misleads those respondents. If you post a “Social” line about a cooking class and then attempt to convert respondents into a commercial solicitation, that is a violation of this AUP.
This section describes what is affirmatively allowed. When in doubt, a line is permitted if it passes all of the following: it is authentic, it expresses genuine connection intent, it is not prohibited under Section 4, and it would not cause a reasonable person to feel unsafe, deceived, or harassed.
Romantic lines express a genuine desire to meet someone for a date, romantic companionship, or a romantic connection. Permitted content includes:
Honest descriptions of the poster’s personality, interests, and what they are looking for
Specific activity-based romantic invitations (“Coffee this Saturday,” “Hiking next weekend”)
General descriptions of the type of connection sought (“Looking for something real,” “Casual connection”)
Honest disclosure of relationship status and preferences, including non-monogamous or ethically non-monogamous arrangements, provided they are described respectfully and honestly
Age preferences, provided they express a preference for adults (18+) only and do not exclude protected classes in a discriminatory way
Social lines express a genuine desire to spend time with another person in a social, non-romantic, non-platonic context. Permitted content includes:
Activity invitations (pickleball, hiking, dinner, farmers market, a movie)
“Spare seat” invitations (“I have an extra ticket to X, looking for someone to join”)
Experience-sharing invitations (“Visiting the art museum Saturday, looking for someone interested in modern art”)
Group activity invitations, provided the poster is genuinely organizing or participating in the activity
Platonic lines express a genuine desire to connect with another person on a non-romantic, non-sexual basis. Permitted content includes:
Friendship invitations
Activity and interest-based companion searches
Community-oriented connection requests (“New to Honolulu, looking to meet people”)
Professional networking where the professional purpose is clearly stated and not disguised as romantic interest
Photographs of yourself, taken by you or with your consent, that honestly represent your appearance
Photographs of activities or locations relevant to your line
Photographs of food, scenery, pets, or other content that adds context to your line
Photographs must be appropriate for a general audience and must not contain prohibited content under Section 4
Tags are searchable descriptors attached to your line. Tags must accurately describe the content of the line and must not be used deceptively to appear in searches where the line is not relevant.
THIS IS THE PLATFORM’S MOST IMPORTANT RULE AND THE DIRECT RESULT OF FOSTA-SESTA. ANY LINE THAT DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY SOLICITS, OFFERS, ADVERTISES, OR FACILITATES THE PURCHASE OR SALE OF SEXUAL SERVICES — WHETHER EXPLICITLY OR THROUGH CODED LANGUAGE — RESULTS IN IMMEDIATE PERMANENT ACCOUNT TERMINATION AND REPORTING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT.
Prohibited content under this rule includes:
Any explicit offer or solicitation of sexual services for compensation
Any use of coded language historically associated with commercial sex solicitation (GFE, P4P, FS, roses, donations, tributes, etc.)
Any request for monetary compensation, gifts, or other consideration in connection with a romantic or sexual meeting
Any “sugar daddy / sugar baby” arrangements or transactional relationship solicitations
Any escort service advertising, massage with extras, or similar euphemistic solicitation
Lines are public-facing discovery content visible to all Platform users before payment. Lines may not contain:
Explicit sexual descriptions or requests
Graphic descriptions of sexual acts or preferences
Requests for sexual photographs from respondents
Any content that a reasonable person would consider sexually explicit
Note: Lines may honestly describe the romantic or intimate nature of the connection being sought without becoming sexually explicit. “Looking for a romantic connection that could lead somewhere serious” is permitted. Explicit sexual content is not.
ZERO TOLERANCE. ANY CONTENT THAT INVOLVES, TARGETS, DEPICTS, OR SEEKS TO CONNECT WITH PERSONS UNDER 18 IS IMMEDIATELY REMOVED AND THE ACCOUNT IS PERMANENTLY BANNED AND REPORTED TO LAW ENFORCEMENT. CONSISTENT WITH BUMBLE’S COMMUNITY GUIDELINES, WE DO NOT ALLOW ANY CONTENT THAT SEXUALIZES OR ENDANGERS CHILDREN.
Lines seeking connections with anyone under 18
Lines posted by users who are or represent themselves as under 18
Any content that sexualizes minors in any form, including fictional depictions
Any content that facilitates communication between an adult and a minor for romantic or sexual purposes
Lines may not discriminate against or exclude potential respondents based on protected characteristics in a manner that violates applicable law. This includes:
Racial or ethnic exclusions (“Whites only,” “No Asians”)
Religious exclusions or requirements that constitute unlawful discrimination
Disability-based exclusions that violate applicable civil rights law
Gender-based exclusions beyond those narrowly permitted by applicable law for same-gender connection preferences
Note: Users may state genuine personal preferences as long as they do not constitute unlawful discrimination. Context matters. An honest statement of sexual orientation (“Gay male seeking same”) is a protected expression of personal preference, not prohibited discrimination.
Lines, messages, and all other Platform content may not:
Threaten harm to any person or group
Harass, intimidate, or demean any person
Disclose or threaten to disclose another person’s private information (doxxing)
Target a specific individual for harassment or coordinated negative attention
Contain content designed to make another person feel unsafe
Consistent with Meetup’s community guidelines, harassment or intimidation based on gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, race, ethnicity, or other personal characteristics is prohibited.
All content must be honest. Prohibited deceptive content includes:
False descriptions of yourself, your appearance, your age, or your situation
Photographs that do not represent your actual appearance (photos of someone else, heavily filtered to the point of misrepresentation, or significantly out of date)
False claims about your relationship status, occupation, or intentions
Catfishing — creating a false identity to deceive other users
Romance scam patterns — building false emotional connections to extract money or personal information
Fake reviews or fraudulent social proof content
Consistent with Facebook Marketplace’s prohibition on “listing non-existent items, using fake images, making misleading claims,” Y🪢 applies equivalent standards to user profiles and lines.
Y🪢 is a connection platform, not a commercial marketplace. Lines may not be used for:
Advertising products or services for sale
Multi-level marketing (MLM) or network marketing recruitment
Cryptocurrency investment solicitations, NFT promotions, or financial product advertising
Business promotion, brand marketing, or influencer recruitment
Job postings or employment solicitations
Event ticket sales or scalping
Real estate listings or property rental advertising
Any other primarily commercial purpose
Consistent with Bumble’s prohibition on “unsolicited commercial or promotional purposes” and Meetup’s prohibition on stepping up as organizer to “send or post promotional content,” Y🪢 strictly enforces the non-commercial nature of all line content.
Consistent with Meetup’s definition of spam as “content sent to a member that is irrelevant, impersonal, unsolicited, promotional, or repetitive,” Y🪢 prohibits:
Posting identical or near-identical lines across multiple accounts
Posting lines at an unnaturally high frequency designed to dominate the discovery feed
Sending identical or templated first messages to large numbers of users
Using automated tools, bots, or scripts to post lines, send messages, or interact with the Platform
Creating multiple accounts to amplify a single user’s presence or circumvent posting limits
Lines, messages, and all other Platform content may not contain hate speech. Hate speech includes:
Content that dehumanizes individuals or groups based on protected characteristics
Content calling for discrimination against, exclusion of, or violence against any group
Slurs targeting any protected group
Content promoting white supremacy, antisemitism, Islamophobia, or other hate ideologies
Holocaust denial or genocide denial
Consistent with Meetup’s prohibition on “sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language,” Y🪢 applies these standards to all content on the Platform.
Sharing another person’s private information without their consent, including home address, workplace, phone number, or financial information
Sharing photographs of another person without their consent
Sharing non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) of any kind
Recording or sharing private conversations without consent where applicable law requires consent
Consistent with Craigslist’s and Facebook Marketplace’s prohibitions on illegal and dangerous content, Y🪢 prohibits all content facilitating or promoting:
Illegal drug sales, purchases, or use — consistent with Facebook Marketplace’s prohibition on “all illegal drugs, prescription drugs without proper authorization, and drug paraphernalia”
Illegal weapons sales, purchases, or trafficking
Human trafficking or smuggling
Sales of stolen property
Sales of counterfeit goods — consistent with Facebook Marketplace’s prohibition on counterfeit designer items
Sales of age-restricted products (alcohol, tobacco, firearms, fireworks) — consistent with Facebook Marketplace’s prohibition on age-restricted products
Sales of endangered species or illegal wildlife products
Content promoting or glorifying self-harm or suicide
Content promoting or glorifying terrorism or mass violence
Consistent with Meetup’s prohibition on posting content that violates another party’s intellectual property rights, Y🪢 prohibits:
Using copyrighted images, text, or other content without authorization
Impersonating another person’s brand or trademark
Reproducing substantial portions of copyrighted works
The text of your line must:
Be in plain language, honest, and specific
Accurately describe your actual situation, intent, and what you are looking for
Not exceed the character limit specified in the Platform interface
Not contain prohibited content under Section 4
Not contain personal contact information (phone number, email, external social media handle, or any identifier designed to take the conversation immediately off-Platform)
Sharing contact information in a line is prohibited. You may share contact information in a message thread after an initial connection has been established.
If your line includes a headline or subject line, it must accurately represent the content of the full line. Misleading or clickbait headlines designed to induce clicks that the full line does not justify are prohibited.
You must select the connection category (“Romantic,” “Social,” or “Platonic”) that accurately reflects your intent. Selecting the wrong category to gain a wider audience or to disguise a romantic intent as a platonic one (or vice versa) is a violation of the authenticity requirement.
Tags must accurately describe the content of the line
Tags may not be used to appear in searches where the line is not relevant
Tag manipulation to game the discovery algorithm is prohibited
Tags may not contain prohibited content
Photographs must be of legal, non-prohibited content
Photographs of real people must be of yourself or taken with the subject’s consent
Stock photography, AI-generated images of people, or photographs taken from social media without permission are not permitted for profile photographs
Photographs that are sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise prohibited under Section 4 are not permitted
Your profile photograph:
Must include a clear, recent photograph of your actual face
Must represent your actual current appearance
Must not be a photograph of someone else
Must not contain prohibited content
Must not contain commercial branding or promotional materials
Messages may contain:
Genuine expressions of interest in connecting with the line poster
Honest information about yourself relevant to the line
Questions about the line or the poster’s plans
Logistics for arranging a meeting (time, place, contact information after an initial connection is established)
Conversation that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the context of a new acquaintance
Messages may not contain:
Sexual content before the other user has clearly indicated their interest in such content
Unsolicited sexual images or content (including nudity)
Commercial solicitations of any kind
Harassment, repeated unwanted contact, or content designed to make the recipient uncomfortable
Threats or intimidation
Prohibited content under any rule in Section 4
If a user explicitly declines your message or request, ignores your message, or blocks you, you may send one brief, polite follow-up message. After that, further contact is prohibited. Sending repeated messages after rejection is harassment and a violation of this AUP.
Consistent with Meetup’s standard that “respecting people’s time, attention, personal choices, and personal boundaries is essential to creating safe and trusting communities,” Y🪢 enforces strict limits on unwanted contact. A rejection must be accepted gracefully.
Each user may maintain only one active account. You may not:
Create more than one account
Create a new account after being banned — ban evasion results in immediate termination of the new account and permanent ban of associated identifiers
Share your account with another person
Sell, transfer, or assign your account to another person
Use a false identity, age, or location to create or maintain an account
Consistent with Meetup’s prohibition on “creating fake accounts, malicious accounts, or accounts meant to impersonate another person,” Y🪢 prohibits all forms of account fraud.
You may post lines at a frequency that reflects genuine, real-time connection intent. You may not post lines at a frequency that suggests automation, spam, or gaming of the discovery feed. We reserve the right to limit posting frequency for accounts that appear to be posting inauthentically.
Boosts must be applied to lines that comply with this AUP. Boosting a line that violates this AUP does not insulate it from removal. Boost fees are non-refundable if a line is removed for a policy violation. You may not use boosts to artificially game the discovery feed in a manner that degrades the experience for other users.
The location associated with your lines must accurately reflect your actual geographic location or the actual location of the activity described in the line. You may not:
Falsify your location to appear in discovery results for areas where you are not located
Use VPNs or other tools to falsify your location
Post lines in locations where you have no intention of meeting or where the described activity does not exist
When you arrange a meeting through the Platform, you are responsible for your own safety and for the safety of those you meet. Please review the safety recommendations in our Liability Waiver and Assumption of Risk Agreement before any in-person meeting. Consistent with Meetup’s guidance that “meetup is unable to monitor offsite behavior,” you understand that Y🪢 cannot supervise or take responsibility for in-person meetings.
These examples are illustrative and non-exhaustive. They are provided to help users understand how the rules in Sections 3 and 4 apply to real-world content.
